Read Aloud / Modeled Reading (I do)
I read aloud various types of text in class. Often, I model what I am thinking as I read. The students participate by listening to the text and my thinking strategies, and then try some of them out on their own or with partners. I read the text so that students can focus on meaning and structure.
Shared / Interactive Reading (I do, you help)
I read a text aloud students have in front of them. The students participate by reading along, using strategies when they encounter difficulty.
Strategic / Guided / Small Group Reading (You do, I help)
We will use the small blue books in social studies for small group reading.
Lit Circles / Book Clubs (You do, I help)
Students will have the opportunity to choose from a list of chapter books that go with topics we are learning about in social studies. We will create book clubs with students in other houses.
Independent Reading (You do)
You will have time to read. Just read. I will ask you about your book and what you are reading, but more than anything I want you to enjoy reading.

Word Study (We do)
I science we often do word studies to figure out words. We will even make up our own words just to play with prefixes, roots, and suffixes.
